The challenge
Transform a robot engineering model into an intuitive and visually compelling industry product and deliver key differentiators to build up a brand that stands out in the emerging and highly competitive market of collaborative robots.
The result
With a particular set of colours the Yuanda robot stands out in the crowd of cobots. A vibrant color and strong contrasts make clear references to industrial power tools giving a strong impulse for the brand development to come. The media flange as the core feature of physical human robot interaction offers intuitive and ergonomic control of the robot. The overall product design is manufacturable in serial production and incorporates the necessary attributes that safety regulations require.
Mobile platform
A mobile platform turns a cobot into a self contained and truly versatile system. Its design is driven by the workflows on the shopfloor and the peripherals used during operation. Together with the Yuanda Robotics team TWID took a close look at different automation applications to find a platform setup that fits.
Packaging and quickguide
The packging concept, unboxing and setup process were approached through digital mockups. Different chronologies were tested using storyboards until a final packging cncept was selected and realized. In the fnal product the storyboard is used as a quickguide that helps setting up the robot for the first time.
Trade fair presentation
During 2017-2020 Yuanda Robotics is present at the major industry fairs in Europe and China: HMI Hanover and CIIF Shanghai. TWID designed the booths ranging from 75-100m². Always important: great demos that show off the robot´s capabilitis and work safely in a crowded environment.
Impact
Five major international design awards for the product design, multiple industry and startup awards for Yuanda Robotics. The obvious success and recognition among design- , innovation- and business experts lead to extensive media coverage on social platforms, in specialist and trade magazines as well as in the general public such as being mentioned in the Chinese evening news. After only three years Yuanda Robotics went from Startup-Stage and first prototype to serial production as a recognized player on the market for collaborative robots!
